After having released quite a number of archives with the Vienna Philharmonic, we are releasing this set in homage to Furtwängler and to the Vienna Philharmonic, orchestra that he conducted 360 between 1922 and 1954. Even though these recordings are not issued for the first time, it is the first time that they are issued by Tahra in the « Tahrasound ». They are partly Live concerts and official His Master's Voice recordings that are today free since they are over 50 years old. The programme gives an insight of the Art of Furtwängler with this great orchestra and the booklet contains a detailed history of Furtwängler's activity and relationship with this orchestra.

Bach: The Art of the Fugue (inst. Scherchen)

Tah 108/109 - Bach: The Art of the Fugue (inst. Scherchen)

H. Scherchen and the CBC Toronto Chamber Orchestra, 1965

In December 1965, Hermann Scherchen was at the CBC Studios in Toronto : he was to be filmed rehearsing the Bach Art of the Fugue. (This document was published on video by VAI). The present set includes the rehearsal and the concert itself. Scherchen conducts his own orchestration of the Art of the Fugue that he premiered seven months earlier in Lugano on May 14. Of this work he said: "With the Art of the Fugue begins Music's true existence".

Press review
